'The Living Art.'
We all people watch, we do it all the time. I begin to wander the city and observe the nature of the people that passed me. I questioned the lifestyle and stereotype of these people what was their purpose was. I did not interact with the passers-by, but simply observed them and called upon my own judgement and stereotyping to come to a conclusion. The Idea that we can question, but we will never know the truth, we always rely on our own judgement.
For this project I started by Photographing people as the passed me by, linking them into stereotypical groups that I had created in my own head based on my judgement. The idea is to pin point certain individuals amongst a crowd and to ask myself questions about the individuals. I started taking my photographs and began to circle people I wanted to question. For the ‘pop-up crit’ I came up with the idea of a 3D sculpture based on the structure of a circle, the idea is that it hangs in a public space (in this case the University lobby in the Arts centre.) and anybody that looks through it can question and explore the people that they see through it. The circle is a metaphor for a human presence watching you.
After photographing I began to separate my photographs into stereotypes. I have been looking at the stereotype of ‘couples’. I started drawing from my photographs to experiment and I like the effect. I haven’t drawn the images exact, but more to show the stereotypical aspects of couples. The couples are a representation of what I have witnessed through mentally circling and physically circling my images. The idea is to have all the drawing images placed together to represent the stereotype of couples.
